06 Jul Astro is Passionate About Supporting Education!
Astro loves supporting education by providing transportation for secondary schools to help facilitate their transportation needs. furthermore a Tallahassee charter bus is used at the college level, too. Sometimes, as motorcoach providers, we supply additional support that is needed to make a field trip happen. Other times, coaches are used by sports teams, band camp members, and choirs. Finally, at the university level, coaches can serve as the backbone of a campus’ in-house transportation system, getting students and faculty alike from Point A to Point B. But you might ask why we love our involvement with education?
Here’s an attempt at an answer. When it comes to education, there are lots of things one could talk about. There are state requirements and education norms. We hear a lot of talk about common core, and while some people like it, others are frustrated by it. There are performing arts high schools that offer amazing opportunities in art, music, and literature. In other schools, students can engage with their questions and conduct scientific experiments and research that ultimately change the world. And aside from these things, who can truly gauge the value of what it means to be able to read, write and think critically? These basic building blocks are used all the time, for language and communication are fundamental tools of daily living. When you think back to your own education, what were the benefits of your time spent with teachers? What did your formal education give to you that was truly beneficial? While every person would answer this question based on their personal opportunities and circumstances, here are a few reasons why we think education is a pretty amazing gift.
First, it expands one’s worldview. It is so easy to focus on the circumference of one’s personal life: the challenges and struggles, as well as the amazing opportunities and blessings. Beyond that, however, it is easy to be trapped with your own views and opinions of the world. This becomes a narrow place, void of the light that comes from engaging in discussion with others and seeing things in new ways. Contrastingly, as people learn about war and economic struggle advances in various fields of learning and come to love the history, literature, and art of various cultures while learning about people and their stories, they’re invited to ponder and process. As Albert Einstein said, “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” Being exposed to these things gives you the gift of perspective on your own circumstances and can inspire you to fight for good causes, to live with gratitude, and to realize that there’s a whole big world out there, for which you and I are only a tiny part. The human story collectively blesses us, and knowing more about that story helps us not only see our place in it, but educate us as to the role we wish to play.
Second, and if for no other reason, it’s inspiring! Plutarch stated, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” Just think of it! Education lets you take walks with great thinkers as you study their words and philosophies. You get to enjoy the company of other ideas and ways of interpreting and interacting with the world. You can listen to the music that has survived through centuries and understand why certain composers’ music is regarded as being some of the best of all time. Think about the wonder of mathematics, physics, and the sciences, and then stop to consider how all of these things bless modern living in exponential ways. When you walk into a room and flip on a light switch, you realize that it resulted from someone else’s study and application from asking questions. When your daughter is diagnosed with diabetes, you find yourself incredibly grateful for scientists who put in years of research to be able to give her the life-sustaining insulin she’d die without. In whatever field you pursue, advances in knowledge are incredible, amazing, and awe-inspiring. It’s hard not to get excited about these things and hard not to feel an enormous sense of gratitude. These things have changed the world.
Lastly, education opens doors and possibilities that would otherwise remain closed. We’ve probably all had the occasion to know someone who wasn’t able to receive a university education, despite truly desiring that opportunity. These folks would have energetically applied themselves and been amazing students if they’d had the financial means to do so, or if personal circumstances hadn’t required that their time be spent in other ways. While some end up enjoying fantastic jobs and making a good living without formal schooling, it’s often true that it is harder to obtain these things without education, and sometimes the disparity can be pretty stark. Greater education generally leads to better jobs and financial security and often opens the door for career advancements as well. As Victor Hugo said, “He who opens a school door closes a prison.”Each “door” advances you to a future with greater possibilities because you put in the time of necessary preparation.
Astro loves supporting education because we believe it lays the foundations for tomorrow. Not only for our children’s tomorrow but also for the world as we know it—a world that is constantly changing as we obtain, assimilate, and then apply what we’ve learned from asking questions and thinking critically. It’s an incredibly valuable gift, and it’s exciting to think about what fruits of education we’ll see in the coming decade.
